The Law Society's Plan for the period 1 April 2005 to 31 March 2006
The targets
The Commissioner formally set targets in relation to the Law Society's performance in four key areas for this period, which the Law Society agreed and included in its improvement Plan. These were:
- Timeliness
- Customer satisfaction
- Quality of decisions
- Delivery of the Plan.
The Commissioner's decision on the Law Society's performance against its improvement Plan
Under the Commissioner's statutory powers she considers whether the Law Society has handled complaints in accordance with its improvement Plan.
The Commissioner's provisional decision on 26 May 2006 was that she was minded to declare that it had not handled complaints in accordance with its Plan. However she offered the Law Society the opportunity to make representations before making her final decision. Following both its written and oral representations the Commissioner notified the Law Society of her decision on 28 July 2006, that it had failed to handle complaints in accordance with its Plan. She also decided that whilst it would be open to her to do so she would not require the Law Society to pay a penalty for this failure.
